Norm, variation and change in language Proceedings of the centenary meeting of the Nyfilologiska sällskapet

Studier i modern språkvetenskap 11 is volume 30 in the collections of articles published by NYFILOLOGISKA SÄLLSKAPET, Stockholm, with a view to presenting current linguistic research to a Swedish as well as an international audience. The volume contains 12 articles on the theme of "Norm, Variation and Change in Language". Two articles consider aspects of translation: the first concerns the translation of dialect expressions, the other the translational competence of professional and trainee translators. Another contribution investigates colloquial spoken French - both of native speakers and of Swedish learners. Other areas considered include English newspaper language, the pronunciation norms of English, the language of young Swedes and the argot of Swedish bus drivers. Additional articles take up matters such as gender in German and Swedish, changes in modern-day Russian, medical terminology in Renaissance and modern Italian, Anglicisms in German and Swedish, and lexical variation in Swedish plant names.
